Centre for Cancer Biology Membership is open to established investigators who hold strong links with SA Pathology or the University of South Australia, and who have a significant interest and profile in cancer research. Other researchers without a cancer focus may be considered for membership if substantial overlap or synergy exists with existing research interests within the CCB.

Memberships are reviewed after five years.

Membership requirements

A postgraduate qualification (for example, MD, PhD or MD/PhD)
A source of salary (a national Fellowship or a continuing appointment through SA Pathology, RAH, UniSA etc.)
A significant international profile as reflected by publications in high impact journals and invitations to speak at major scientific conferences
Demonstrated ability to attract peer-reviewed funding, holding at least one current Category 1 grant
Willingness to prepare and manage an agreed research program that is consistent with the CCB Strategic Plan
A prior 5-year period of sustained excellence in basic, translational and/or clinical research

Expectations and responsibilities

Members of the Centre for Cancer Biology:

Participate in and support general activities of the CCB
Attract external funding and maintain a productive research group
Submit grant applications (Category 1-4) through the CCB
Supervise students
Interact with CCB Faculty and promote collaboration with world class colleagues
Promote the CCB and its interests interstate and overseas
Include their CCB affiliation in manuscripts
Contribute to the annual report
Take part in at least 50% of administrative and organisational functions of the CCB

Member rights

As a Member of the Centre for Cancer Biology you will have:

Autonomy in all aspects of research and research collaborations undertaken consistent with the CCB Strategic Plan
Membership of the CCB Faculty Committee
Representation at the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI)
Access to common CCB resources as appropriate
Consideration for a support package

Associate Membership

Associate Members contribute to the Centre for Cancer Biology by collaborating with Faculty Members and specific laboratories and must be nominated by a current Member. Promising scientists with evolving independent careers and working closely with a current Member may also be considered for Associate Membership.

Associate Membership requirements

A postgraduate qualification (for example, MD, PhD or MD/PhD)
A source of salary (a national Fellowship or an appointment through SA Pathology, RAH, UniSA etc.)
A source of grant funding support
A distinct research program that fits with the overall aims of the CCB
Willingness to prepare and manage an agreed research program that is consistent with the CCB Strategic Plan, with appropriate mentoring from a CCB Member in the case of early/mid-career scientists.
A prior 5-year period of sustained excellence in basic, translational and/or clinical research

OR

A research trajectory approaching fulfilment of the criteria for full membership within the next 5 years

Participate in and support general activities of the CCB.
Attract external funding and maintain a productive research group or team
Supervise students
Interact with CCB Faculty and promote collaboration with world class colleagues

Associate Member rights

As an Associate Member of the Centre for Cancer Biology you will have:

Autonomy in all aspects of research and research collaborations undertaken consistent with the CCB Strategic Plan
Membership of the CCB Faculty Committee if located at the CCB
Representation at the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI)
Access to common CCB resources as appropriate
Access to mentoring from CCB Members

Clinical Affiliate Membership

Clinical Affiliate Members contribute to the Centre for Cancer Biology by collaborating with Faculty Members and specific laboratories and must be nominated by a current Member.

Clinical Affiliate Membership requirements

A postgraduate qualification (for example, MD, PhD or MD/PhD) or equivalent professional experience
A current clinical appointment
A significant profile in area of expertise
A collaborative relationship with a CCB Member

Expectations and responsibilities

Participate in and support general activities of the CCB
Maintain or contribute to a productive research group or team
Interact with CCB Faculty and promote collaboration with world class colleagues
Promote the CCB and its interests interstate and overseas
Include their CCB affiliation in manuscripts

Clinical Affiliate Member rights

As a Clinical Affiliate Member of the Centre for Cancer Biology you will have:

Autonomy in all aspects of research and research collaborations undertaken consistent with the CCB Strategic Plan
Access to common CCB resources as appropriate
